Often we think of orphans as children who live in third world countries, those whose images we see on television or in the newspaper. But they’re not just around the globe, they’re also right here in our own backyard. On any given day in South Florida, there are three to four thousand “temporary orphans” in foster care. Imagine how children must feel when they’re removed from their homes, often with nothing more than the clothes on their back and a garbage bag filled with whatever they were able to quickly pack. These children are created in the image of God and deserve to be treated with dignity and showered with love. So whether it’s a child who is a victim of abuse or neglect, a teenager rejected by his family, or a young girl who is pregnant and alone, from the moment they come into our care, we provide support, encouragement, and direction. Our Vision: A Home for Every Child in Crisis Core Values: Sacrifice::: Serving with the heart of God,whatever the cost. Perseverance::: Never giving up on a child. Integrity::: In everything, above reproach. Compassion::: Walking with children on their path to redemption. Excellence::: Giving our best to those in need.
About

Meet our Foster Parent, Kristine! In her own words, Kristine shares why she decided to foster: "I wanted to make a difference in the life of another, and provide love, growth, and support to the growing number of kids in need of a forever family." Earlier this year we got to celebrate her adoption of Kayla, who she fostered since she was a baby. We're grateful for single parents like Kristine who are transforming the lives of kids.

Did you know? About 48% of the children in foster care across Broward, Palm Beach, and the Treasure Coast are between the ages of 0-5 years old. Find out how many of these kids are being removed from your own neighborhood by visiting the link below. Once you know the number, share it onto your social media with the hashtag #CloseToHome4KIDS. This week, we held a appreciation luncheon for some of our business partners, the true "Heroes of Hope!" We are so thankful for each and every one of you.

We’re halfway through National Foster Care Month, and today we want to thank all the individuals in the community who dedicate their lives to helping vulnerable children and families. For anyone who works in social services or related fields, has ever fostered, and/or been a source of support for a struggling caregiver, we are truly grateful for your selfless example and outpouring of love. Tag someone below who is making a difference in the lives of the next generation!

In whatever capacity you serve as a "mom," we are grateful for your commitment to loving kids and being a source of love, nurture, and strength to those around you. Today is your day!

Meet our newest residential house parent, Lisa! Lisa is passionate about helping kids in foster care experience hope and restoration. In her own words, "God was my father when I was fatherless, He was my protector when I was being abused. I’m a fighter and I’m going to fight to help heal children." We are thrilled she officially became licensed to foster last month, and that she is celebrating her first Mother's Day this weekend!

Right now in Broward County, the top reason kids are being removed from their homes is due to their caregiver’s substance abuse. See how many kids have been separated from their families in your area by clicking the link below, and share your findings with your friends and family. Together, we can end this crisis Close to Home. https://www.4kids.us/closetohome

Last weekend, JAG Aero Solutions blessed 20 of our foster moms and SOSI resident advisors with a “Day at the Spa” at Contour Day Spa in Plantation. They were each treated to a manicure, pedicure, and their choice of either a facial or massage! Special thanks to both our these partners for gifting some of our ladies with a much needed day of relaxation.

“The Whole-Brain Child,” by Dr. Daniel J. Siegel is an excellent read for caregivers. Siegel stresses the importance of connecting with your child before re-direction. In this book, Siegel writes, “Help your kids use both the logical left brain and the emotional right brain as a team. When your child is upset, connect first emotionally, right brain to right brain. Then, once your child is more in control and receptive, bring in the left brain lessons and discipline.” Our Clinical Department highly recommends this book for any parent looking to grow!

Even in the nicest neighborhoods, kids may be suffering from abuse and neglect. This month, use your social media to highlight the need for both family preservation and additional foster homes in our community. You don’t need to be a child welfare expert to share your passion for helping kids! Direct your friends and family to learn more about the foster care crisis and how 4KIDS is intervening by visiting https://www.4kids.us/CloseToHome today.

Our Vision Tours are free to attend and occur monthly on Thursdays and Fridays.
